Abstract

The article investigates the effects of a maternal pheromone application on piglets behavior after weaning. Weaning can lead to severe aggression resulting to body damage and reduced growth on piglets. A synthetic maternal pheromone was studied to determine its effects on behavior of groups of weaned piglets in a commercial housing. The authors found out that the application of a synthetic maternal pheromone under commercial condition can help in reducing levels of aggressions by weaned pigs.
