Abstract

The article discusses the status of Japan-Korean relations as of June 2009. It notes that the Japanese government was active in pushing for the United Nations (UN)Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1874 and imposing unilateral sanctions against Pyongyang in North Korea for executing a missile launch on April 5, 2009. The South Korean government has protested against Japan's approval to publish a new textbook which justifies Japan's colonization of Korea. Events related to the trilateral cooperation among Beijing, Tokyo, and Seoul are discussed.
