Abstract

The article focuses on the construction of the new highway traversing Albania from the Adriatic Sea to its north east border with Kosovo and on the 61 kilometer central leg of the project. Massive excavations for the route require over 1,000 pieces of earth moving equipment and muck shifting is a massive job. The route has 29 bridges and has a twin tube tunnel. The work is undertaken by a joint venture of Bechtel Corp. and Enka GmbH & Co. KG.
