Abstract
- The article discusses a study which examined the influence of marine growth on the effectiveness of helical strakes to suppress vortex-induced vibrations on circular cylinders. The physical properties of test specimen with hard and soft marine growth are outlined, as well the procedure followed when performing tests with perturbation. Results showed that an initial perturbation of the riser could affect the cross-flow response. Comparisons between 100% height soft and hard marine growth are also presented.
