Abstract

The article focuses on the doctrinal and intellectual framework of the first missionary grammarians working in South America. It examines the context of the grammarians' work as a way to understand inconsistencies and contradictions. The article begins with an analysis of the grammatical formation of missionaries in both Latin and Spanish, as well as difficulties they encountered due to linguistic differences between European and Mesoamerican languages, including Nahuatl. It also discusses the influence of both Latin and Spanish on the composition of indigenous languages.
