Abstract

This article presents an interview with artist Betty Tompkins. Speaking on the perception of people that she denigrates women and dogs, Tompkins says that men took it personally at first until they saw the depiction of women in her art. She says that both animals and people are equal and humans are not superior to dogs, and that the subject matter is the window to the painting. She informs that her work in the 1970s was totally different, which was about definition, by using letters and words.
