Abstract

The article discusses a study on the feeding ecology of green turtles from Shoalwater Bay, Queensland. A random sub-set of turtles was selected for diet analysis and stomach flush technique was used to obtain diet sample. The study asserts that the volume of seagrass consumed by turtles means that in terms of tissue assimilation, seagrass is the most important source of carbon (C) and nitrogen, although opportunistic foraging on mangrove leaves is likely to provide a food source in C and with a faster release of nutrients than seagrass.
