Abstract

The article focuses on proceedings concerning Holocaust art claims and the public international law which covers such claims. It discusses two aspects of the public international law's effect on Holocaust art claims. These include the principle of restitution and the obligations of third party States have in connection to the principle, as well as the extent to which State immunity can hinder the pursuance of such claims under municipal law. It provides information about how restitution is defined in the international law, as well as the history of the provision for returning looted art.
