Abstract
- The article reports on the rising popularity of hip-hop music in China. Students and working-class Chinese have been writing rap music as form self-expression since the genre is not sanctioned by broadcast media producers and government censors. Disc jockey Wang Liang said that hip-hop allows people to express what they fell and think in a country where difference is being discouraged. Rapper Zhong Cheng added that hip-hop music in the country changed when rappers started writing verse in Chinese.
