The article examines the ideas of German sociologist and philosopher Georg Simmel on the problem of masses as a sociological subject in the cultural space. Topics include the developments and conflicts of modern culture according to Simmel, the concept of mass society as a compromise between the need for rationalization of collective life and the emotional needs of individual life, and the relation of individuals with mass culture.
