Abstract
- The article recalls an event when the U.S. Navy's submarine Archerfish sank the 62,000 ton Japanese carrier Shinano on the waters south of Tokyo in November 1944. The Archerfish was a 310-foot diesel powered submarine with a crew of 10 officers and 70 enlistment and was commissioned in September 1943. The article details how the submarine was able to sink the Japanese carrier. As a result of such event, skipper Commander J.F. Enright received the Navy Cross while the Archerfish was recognized with the Presidential Unit Citation.
