Abstract

This article discusses the role of continuous activation of the renin-angiotensin system in the development of dementia and other cognitive disorders. Observed increases in superoxide anion production and decreases in the cerebral blood flow of mice with renin-angiotensin system disorders are noted. The relationship between treating the renin-angiotensin disorder and the recovery of cognitive function when these mice were treated with Tempol, olmesartan, and hydralazine is noted.
