Abstract

The article reports on a study which evaluated the recombinant leptospiral transmembrane protein OmpL1 (rOmpL1) for use in the diagnosis of canine leptospirosis by latex agglutination test (LAT). Considered one of the most widespread zoonoses worldwide, leptospirosis is caused by spirochettes of the genus Leptospira. Based on the microscopic agglutination test (MAT) of serum samples from dogs suspected of leptospirosis, 446 samples showed positive reciprocal agglutination titers. The sensitivity and specificity in the rOmpL1 based LAT were observed at 93.05% and 91.95% respectively.
