Abstract
- The article focuses on the studies written by Irish famine historians about the famine in Irish history and its contribution to the immigration of Irish to the U.S. Research evaluates the responsibility of the British government with relief movement that marks American's entrance onto the international stage for humanitarian acts. The author states that Americans have organized relief efforts through voluntary local, county and state committees, which led to the shipment of foodstuffs to Ireland in the spring and summer of 1847. Moreover, raising money to send direct donations of food, usually cornmeal, wheat flour, beans, bacon, and salted pork, were also managed.
