Chapter 7 of the book "Rethinking Information Work: A Career Guide for Librarians and Other Information Professionals," by G. Kim Dority is presented. It presents guidelines for building a career in information and library science (LIS). It states that the basis for the learning agenda of LIS professionals is gap analysis and strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis. Skills that will add value to one's professional portfolio include general professional skills and discipline-specific professionals skills, among others.
