Abstract

The article presents a research related to the impact of schizophrenia on social organization and urbanicity in Australia. It states that schizophrenia is the most common of the psychotic disorders and is characterized by fundamental distortions of thought, perception and emotional response. The aim of the study was to identify the influence or area residence on arrest and on recorded diagnoses of schizophrenia. Furthermore, the study takes advantage of prior record linkage between two population-based registers, the Western Australian Mental Health Information System and the Western Australian Arrestee Database.
