Abstract
- This section offers news briefs concerning world politics. Burma's ruling military junta has come in for another round of criticism and condemnation over the convictions of participants in 2007's pro-democracy demonstrations. Chinese officials refused to respond to questions about the government's use of forced disappearances and detainee torture at a hearing of the United Nations Committee Against Torture. Women's rights activists are expressing outrage over the selection of two politicians to serve in the cabinet of the current government of Pakistan.
