Abstract
- CHARLES GIBSON (ABC NEWS) (Off-camera) Good evening. In sobering terms, President Bush renewed his call late today for a cease fire in the conflict between Russia and Georgia. Ignoring that and similar calls from US allies, Russian forces moved beyond the break away regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and apparently have moved into Georgia itself. There are reports the Russians have captured the Georgian town of Gori and a military base in Senaki. It is clear the Russians have the upper hand in this conflict. It is not clear how long they intend to carry on the fight. ABC's Clarissa Ward is in Georgia. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
