Abstract

Information on the Advanced Program to Program Communications (APPC) protocol from the book "Network Protocols Handbook," Fourth Edition, is presented. The APPC, originally developed by International Business Machines (IBM) as a remote transaction processing tool between Logic Units (LUs), is a programming interface standard that allows interconnected systems to communicate and share the processing of programs. In addition, user-written programs are allowed by the APPC software to perform transactions in a Client-Server network.
