Abstract

The article offers a description of the Cisco Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) Trunking Protocol (VTP) from the book "Network Protocols Handbook," Fourth Edition. VTP is defined as a Cisco Layer 2 messaging protocol that functions in the addition, deletion, and renaming of VLANs on a network-wide basis. The Summary Advert Packet Format and the Subset Advert Packet Format are also included.
