IMPLEMENTING UNGEI IN THE MENA REGION.

The article discusses the highlights of a workshop by United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) education officers and representatives from Ministries of Education from Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region held in Cairo, Egypt on February 27, 2008. The topics tackled included the gender gap in terms of access to education in the region, the barriers to the enrollment of girls in schools and strategies to overcome the gender gap. The developments in efforts for gender equity in the region are also discussed.
