Abstract

The article presents a study on the nonurgent use of emergency department (ED) in which the low-acuity patients occupy the department most of the time rather than patients with higher-acuity health problems. The methodology used to conduct the study is through a survey addressing various topics. The study reveals that the inability to office clinic appointment, primary care physician (PCP) advice, and high self-perceived illness severity were the main reasons for ED usage.
