Abstract

The article reports that U.S. President George W. Bush has tried to convince the American people and lawmakers that the government's proposed $700 billion rescue program is necessary to prevent economic worries from becoming full-fledged panic. Bush's comments came just hours after Arizona Republican Senator and presidential nominee John McCain startled backers and observers by saying he would suspend his presidential campaign and return to Washington to work on the economic puzzle.
