Abstract: Chapter 9.4 of the book "The Physiology of Tropical Fishes," Volume 21, is presented. The chapter focuses on the impact on North American acidophilic teleosts of ion-poor, acidic waters. It discusses studies which found that banded sunfish and yellow perch can not tolerate low pH unlike salmonids or cyprinids.
