Abstract
- Chapter 3.4 of the book "Dynamic Food Webs: Multispecies Assemblages, Ecosystem Development & Environmental Change" is presented. It examines the predicted effects of induced defenses on trophic structure. As defined inducible defenses occur in both terrestrial and aquatic food webs and include refuge use, reduced activity, formation of colonies, helmets, thorns or spines. It also discusses how inducible defenses cause flexible food web links and heterogenous food web nodes and focuses on inducible defenses that are reversible.
