Abstract
- Information on the ecology and distribution of the freshwater haptophyte algae from chapter 13 of the book "Freshwater Algae of North America: Ecology & Classification" is presented. Based on reports, Chrysochromulina parva (C. parva) is the most common haptophyte in lakes, ponds and rivers. C. parva is also a common element of the phytoplankton in small oligotrophic softwater lakes of Ontario's Precambrian Shield. The distributions of C. breviturrita and C. laurentiana are noted to be restricted to neutral and acidic lakes in northeastern North America.
