Abstract

The article reports on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling about the word "proceeds" in the federal money laundering statute. Accordingly, the word proceeds referred to in the statute means profits and not receipts. It is stated that in the majority opinion authored by Justice Antonin Scalia notes that a profits requirement makes money laundering cases more difficult to prosecute.
