Abstract
- The article examines the "Dedicated to Christ," or "Golgotha," as one of the enigmatic paintings of artist and poet Marc Chagall in the early period of Paris, France. The painting, which consists of dar with mystery and tension engendered by the contrast of complementary colors, has been variously interpreted within a Christian religious, Russian or Jewish literary context. In addition, the painting was first exhibited under the neutral title "Composition" in the Cubist room of the Salon d'Automne from October 1 to November 8, 1912.
