Abstract

In this article, the author explores the diplomatic impact of the mediation by Venezuelan President Hugo in Colombia's hostage crisis in 2007. According to the author, the involvement of Chávez has caused the Venezuela-Colombia dispute to escalate. She attributes the dispute to the move of Colombian president Álvaro Uribe to abruptly cancel the Venezuelan president's participation in talks with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) for the release of the hostages.
