Abstract

The article discusses the five most intriguing issues that affect the longevity of people. The author tackles the effect of human genes, lifestyle and occupation on how long a person lives. Moreover, he notes that people in Japan live the longest mainly because of their diet composed of Oolong green tea, wheat and buckwheat flour, and their food habits. Issues on the role of calorie restriction in longevity, as well as the contribution of diet, physical activity and health are also discussed.
