Abstract

The surface of Saturn is generally cloudy, murky, and bland. But, as in this image, the gases of the far north of the planet can have the same effect on sunlight as does the Earth's much thinner and more fragile atmosphere. They scatter blue light to our eyes, or in this case to a camera on board the Cassini spacecraft. Onto these deep blue skies are cast the shadows of Saturn's rings, while over and around the planet speeds Mimas, one of the large family of moons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
