Abstract
- The article focuses on the unveiling of the first large commissioned tapestry, Our Ancestors' Land is Our Land Now, at the opening of the Unikkaarvik Centre in Iqualuit, Canada on September 6, 1991. The tapestry, which measures 13' 6" high and 7' 6" wide, was commissioned by the Government of the Northwest Territories, Department of Economic Development and Tourism. According to the article, 10 Pangnirtung artists were invited to submit several drawings each as design proposals. Moreover, weavers have decided to create a composite design using several different images from artists.
