Abstract

Electrophoresis and chromatography on paper have proved extremely useful techniques for the separation of small peptides prior to amino acid sequencing. Polarity determines the rate of migration of a peptide during chromatography, whereas both charge and size are the main determinants during electrophoresis. The two techniques therefore are complimentary, and when used in conjunction can resolve most peptide mixtures into their pure components. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
