Abstract

The article presents information on the representation of AIDS in the Anglo-American media industry. It informs that British television (TV) and press depict AIDS as a disease associated with gay men. Gay men with AIDS are given speaking parts on British TV coverage. It is stated that the media's method of depiction of homosexual men with the disease implies that AIDS results from gay sex, and that gay people with AIDS are morally responsible for suffering from the disease. It is maintained that the Anglo-American media perpetrate fear of gay men. It is mentioned that AIDS is called the gay plague in British press reports. It is stated that in the U.S., civil rights given to homosexuals has been wiped out by AIDS phobia.
