Abstract
- The article describes the case of terra cotta renovation of the Railway Exchange Building in St. Louis, Missouri. The landmark building, opened in 1913, was one of the first permanent edifices commissioned by David May. The present building was designed by Mauran Russell & Crowell based on eastern classicism. Its facades are a canvas of classical and renaissance design motifs, while horizontal and vertical foliated bands follow the columns and spandrels. The material chosen to convey the fenestration was highly glazed, cream-colored terra cotta.
