Abstract

The article highlights the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights (PVPFR) Act in India. The legislation is the first in the world to provide formal rights to farmers in a way that their control over genetic resources and their self-reliance in agriculture is not jeopardized. It has also opened up possibilities for developing a platform for regulating breeders' and farmers' rights so that both are acknowledged and safeguarded.
