Abstract

The article explores on the acreage difference of a hilly land and a flat land in the U.S. Every acre of land contains the same measurement regardless of its steepness and shape due to long-standing conventions of land surveying and accepted procedures for determining ownership boundaries. Experts do not measure an acre by evaluating the size of the quilt needed to cover it. It reveals that an acre is a two-dimensional measure of land. Whatever the shape of a parcel or the topography of the land it contains, surveyors measure its acreage based on its common surface by employing basic geometry.
