Abstract

The article focuses on the presentation of patriarchy and paradise in the Caribbean as themes in the novel "Macadam Dreams," by Gisèle Pineau. The author said that the novel depicts paradise and idealism to create a link between the devastation caused by a cyclone and violent experiences of rape and incest victims. The heroines in the novel demonstrated poor response to the aftermath of the disaster and violence. She also related the importance of rebuilding one's life through the character of Eliette's godmother Anoncia.
