Abstract

The article discusses the progress made in determining the cause and management of dyspnea in people with interstitial lung disease (ILD). It is said that the severity of dyspnea in patients with ILD affects quality of life and survival. The prevalence of dyspnea in ILD patients is claimed to be universal, while the factors that cause dyspnea are said to be related to neuromechanical dissociation. The authors reveal that pharmacological treatment for dyspnea associated with ILD, like bosentan therapy, are not yet proven to be effective.
