Abstract

The article focuses on the rising popularity of the community radio movement in Haiti after post-coup period. About 92% of Haitians have access to a radio and listeners spend at least two hours a day tuned in. Following the coup from 1995 to 2000, more than 30 community and/or popular Radios were launched in tiny hamlets and towns, some of which earlier did not even have access to radio signals from the capital. Foreign and local non-governmental organizations along with UNESCO helped to establish the radios stations.
