Abstract

An encyclopedia entry for "Taenia solium" is presented. It refers to a tapeworm encountered in pigs which can grow up to 5m in length. Its adult form has a ring of hooklets and is known as "the armed tapeworm of man." Its cystic stage, Cysticerus cellulosae, gives rise to "measles of pork" or "measly pork" and is found in the musculature of the pig, chiefly the muscles of the heart, diaphragm and tongue.
