Abstract: The author comments on the Pritzker jury's recognition of Jean Nouvel's architectural work. He mentions that Christian Portzamparc, another French architect, has won the award before. He points out that Nouvel is ready to try many different approaches and that he produces architecture that relishes the sensuous qualities of materiality.
