Abstract
- The article presents several artworks in South Florida. "Florida: Land of Sunshine and Happiness" is a cover of a promotional brochure from the 1920's that shows a nymph bounding rapturously forward into the golden light. The notion of Florida as "Paradise Found" still resonates today as it did throughout the 20th-century land boom that gradually made the state a haven for vacationers, retirees and opportunists of every stripe. On the other hand, Carol Drummond's art quilt, "Postcard from Paradise" captures ebulliant, multicultural spirit. Three contemporary Florida artists, Mary Voytek, Kathleen Holmes and Carol Prusa, explore the beauties and incongruities of the place in their work.
