Abstract
- The article reports on the "2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress" (NAEP) data released by the U.S. National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) which found that boys are much farther behind girls in writing. Experts said that the finding is worrisome because businesses and higher education stakeholders regard the ability to write well as a vital skill for success in the workforce and in college. The possible reasons named by teachers and policy experts for the writing gap include writing assignments that do not engage boys' interests.
