Abstract

The article reports that a school board decision to privatize custodial and transportation services would make 150 employees of Birmingham Public Schools lose their jobs in 2009. The decision was made by the board in order to address the district's $3.2 million budget deficit. Officials argued that the deficit would only increase until the state makes a revision to the school funding formula.
