Abstract
- The article discusses several monuments and relics dedicated to the Irish rebels in 1798 and 1920. It describes the history and nature of the Irish-Australian identity and Australian public perception expressed through memorials and monuments constructed for the cause. Highlight is given to the design, construction and symbolism of the two memorials, The 'Terence' Macswiney and the Waverly 1798 monument.
