Abstract

The article offers advice on combining strength and power training program for Australian Football League (AFL) players. It notes that the intensity of training for strength should be 80% of the one-repetition maximum (1RM) or higher and the volume should be 3-5 sets of up to 1-5 repetitions. It suggests that the intensity for power resistance training in lifting should be 30% to 50% of 1RM. It recommends the use of plyometric training for power to boost the capacity of an athlete to generate a higher force and contraction speed.
