- Information about the Spam processed-meat product is presented. The canned meat product was introduced by the Hormel Foods Corp. in 1937. Spam was launched as a surplus food for the U.S. armed forces during the World War II. Later, the product sold as a breakfast and luncheon meat to household consumers.
