Abstract

The article reports that over-cautious pharmaceutical labels on topical corticosteroid application are reinforcing patient's irrational fear of steroids. Australasian College of Dermatologists secretary Dr. Stephen Shumack said that labels advising patients to apply topical corticosteroid 'thinly' or 'sparingly' carries messages of economy and caution. With this, he suggests labeling to include a fingertip unit guide to indicate how many fingertip of product a patient needed to apply.
