Abstract
- The article discusses a study about the effects of a lack of sunlight on the bones of Australian men and women who work in Antarctica over winter. An overview of the functions of vitamin D is provided, along with a discussion of vitamin D deficiency. After 6 months, the vitamin D levels of expeditioners dropped significantly, and they were not able to maintain their serum calcium levels. Having a healthy lifestyle can lead to strong skeleton and reduced risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures.
